The Powerwall is a home battery that charges during the day using electricity generated from solar panels or from the grid when utility rates are low. On 29th October 2016, Tesla announced that the second generation Powerwall – the Powerwall 2.
Featuring more than twice the energy storage capacity of the original version with 13.5 kWh capacity, Powerwall 2 is a battery for homes and small businesses that stores energy FREE from the sun and delivers clean, reliable electricity when the sun is not shining. Compact, scaleable and with a built-in inverter, installation is simple, either indoor or outdoor.
Production for Powerwall 2 has begun at the Tesla Gigafactory in Nevada and installations in Australia began in 2017.
